In fact, Holy Family’s group is the largest parish group attending from the Melbourne Archdiocese.
Currently, our pilgrim group is preparing for their pilgrimage through a series of formation sessions. These sessions focus on the main theme of ACYF: “Listen to what the Spirit is saying” and they allow students to get to know one another and form new friendships. The Youth Festival will take place in Perth this December. Our group will fly out on December 7th and return on the 12th. We expect that around 5000 young people from around Australia will attend ACYF.
We hope that this exciting journey will be an opportunity for our young people to have a personal encounter with Christ, to be encouraged by the witness of other young Catholics, and to receive a new resolve, not just to deepen their own faith, but to share it with others.
Additionally, we are pleased to announce that our first ACYF fundraiser, The Grand Final Eve Trivia Night, was a huge success!
We managed to fill 15 tables and had over 150 people in attendance. Holy Family parishioners, pilgrim family members, and local Catholic schools showed their support through rallying family members to attend, booking tables, and donating raffle prizes.
Our young pilgrims worked hard to ensure that the hall was appropriately decorated in footy colours, they played live music, they helped announce the trivia topics, and they served drinks and sweets to the guests.
Our ACYF group demonstrated excellent hospitality and made sure all of the guests felt welcome and well taken care of. It seemed like everyone had a fantastic time! The funds that we raised through the trivia night enabled us to keep the registration costs lower for all of our families and to help offset the expenses of our volunteer leadership team.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support our pilgrims! We are so grateful to have a parish that is so generous and supportive of its young people. Also, a big thanks to all of the volunteers, the AYFC pilgrims, and the ACYF leadership team who helped to make the night such a success.
Please continue to support our young people through your prayers.
We also will run a cake stall at the Mount Waverley Rotary Market on November 10th, so please come by and pick up a cake or some biscuits to help out our group. Also, we will need the help of some talented bakers to make sure we have enough to sell at the market.
Please get in touch by emailing mountwaverley.evangelisation@cam.org.au if you'd like to get involved. Thank you.
