The Korean Catholic Community in Mount Waverley (KCCM) was founded 35 years ago, as a handful of families from all over Melbourne. In the beginning, the tiny congregation would meet for Mass at their homes, before finding a church at which to worship and build a community. Since then, the community has been based at various churches, including in Essendon and Port Melbourne, before being welcomed by and settling at Holy Family Mount Waverley in 1998. The Community has continued to grow and develop, with a second parish in West Ivanhoe, alongside the Mount Waverley congregation.

The Korean Catholic Community in Mount Waverley now numbers several hundred parishioners, and is an active and dynamic Christian community. As well as 1:30 Sunday Mass, the Community also runs a Sunday school and a Korean language school for young parishioners. There are many groups dedicated to service, including Legion of Mary groups, youth groups, women’s groups and a joyous choir.

With increasing numbers of new migrants arriving from Korea, many of whom are Catholic, we anticipate that the Korean Catholic Community in Mount Waverley will continue to grow, both in number and in spiritual development. With an energetic and vibrant congregation, we hope to share bright future with the Holy Family parish, as well as with the multicultural communities of the area.
